Dixie Rails Saviours!
Read All About the Heroes of the Tuscon Line!

Byline by Jewel Faye Kipling

An amazing series of events unfolded on this morning’s inaugural journey of the Muëller High Efficiency Engine running between Tucson and Prescott! Our journey set off in high spirits as Miss Flora Waite of Dixie Rails welcomed Doctor Thaddeus Muëller and his wonderful new high efficiency Ghost Rock engine train to the platform. Finally focused on refining existing designs rather than blindly following the next exploding trend, it truly brought home that the Confederacy is poised to win this Rail War with our commitment to forward thinking design.

The initial leg was not without issue, and the unfortunate speedbumps that I at first dismissed may in fact have been foreshadowing the tragedy to befall us. A rather shady looking man upset no less than Gustav Cunrine himself in the gambling halls, and only the quick action of the excellent service staff of Dixie Rails managed to keep him from declaring the failure of the engine there and then. As well a rather violent Chinese man attempted to demonstrate his “mastery of the martial arts”, and then when trounced by good old American fisticuffs proceeded to attack a man from behind in a shocking display of poor sportsmanship.

I later discovered that not even our noted cadre of scientists were immune to this shocking lax in discipline. Of the three Scientists hired to verify the claims of Doctor Muëller, only one saw fit to actually perform his job.Content Not Found: doctor-grady-gard appeared to spend the first half of the journey eating in the dining car rather than performing his readings, and Doctor Isiah Weston was outed as potentially taking Union bribes to sabotage our journey. Thankfully Doctor Orland Easton was committed to actually performing his job.

The perfidy of Doctor Weston was uncovered through the excellent work of Texas Ranger Zina Whitbeck, as well as apparently some help from an unnamed Dixie Rails Indian employee. When that bribery was uncovered, we all believed that the worst was behind us. Little did we suspect that two attackers gained access to the train and began to launch a vicious assault against it. The male attacker struck at the media car, no doubt hoping to kill Doctor Muëller or Miss Waite, while the female went to the rear to attack our noble troops, and prevent anyone from escaping.

Fortunately the brave Dixie Rails soldiers, with a minor amount of help from the Indian “Shaman” were able to overcome the attacker in the rear, and Ranger Whitbeck rallied the troops to the point where even a singer came to defeat the attacker in the media car! In the aftermath we mourned the dead, but thankfully that was the last interruption in our journey and we arrived in Prescott with no further interruption.

Though the perfidy of the Union has yet to be confirmed, no doubt they will prove to be responsible. Nonetheless we must be grateful to Ranger Whitbeck for his tireless work in defending us, and in securing the first journey of what is no doubt going to be a revolution for the South! We are all joined in clamouring for widescale production of this new engine, an hope that Doc Muëller will make his re-appearance soon! Sadly the heroic Ranger could not be reached for combat, as he had departed for Tucson to track down the malefic attackers of this convoy. This reporter herself will be setting out to track their journey and report their no doubt imminent success!

The Devil's Tower
This was a perfectly logical sequence of events.

Start of Play – October 30, 1876

  • Party debates whether or not to believe Jackie Wells’s claim of being from the future, and to give her the Heart of Darkness.
  • Cedric J. Northington and Nikita Williams nominally on her side, Roy Barker believes her to be a particularly mad scientist
  • Marcus Kraus requests $32,000 to buy his support. Jackie “creates” it and gives it to him.
  • Arriving at Bayou Vermillion railhead, Jackie’s story of the train being delayed proves true. Decide to accompany her
  • Party boards advanced aeronautic vehicle and flies to Devil’s Tower. Landing procedure involves crashing into the roof, and fighting Devil Bats to gain entry.
  • Crossbreeds inside conducting horrific experiments. Ignored for the sake of expediency.
  • Portal room now guarded by numerous guards. Roy uses magic, others use a lot of firing guns to intimidate.
  • Portal opened – Old Pete between them and safety. Reveals himself to be Jasper Stone from another time.
  • Fight to gain entry to the portal. Stone seems unkillable, but Marcus’s crew fights furiously to stall him.
  • Eventually everyone stalls Stone long enough to get through, escape to the future.
  • Heart of Darkness given to Jackie to confirm to Vanessa Hellstromme – and she is teleported away to deliver the Heart
  • Group contacted by radio. Jackie is unable to return, leaving them stuck alone on Hell on Earth.

End of Play – November 3, 2094

Sunday, Bloody Sunday
The critical time comes round at last

Start of Play – October 28, 1876

  • Infiltration of The Rock commences. Slaughterhouse, meat locker, and kitchens discovered. Initial discovery prevented by Marcus Kraus
  • Cell block discovered in basement level. Guard knocked out by Nikita Williams, but determined Jasper Stone was not present.
  • Moved into Sub-Basement. Discovery of blood-stained altar and hidden door, which key from Old Pete fits. Exploration continued.
  • Bedchambers belonging to 13 Elders. Investigation debated, but rejected due to time constraints.
  • Meeting room for Elders found. Roy Barker and Cedric J. Northington witness horrible murals inside composed of human remains. Forbid others from entering
  • Beyond hidden door find Grimme’s throne room, decorated by bones, and Grimme’s art studio, decorated with organs.
  • Grimme’s laboratory has a single cell in which Jasper Stone is bound by magic. Freed, and escape begins.
  • Prisoners in upper cell levels unable to be rescued. Marcus passes gun along to one prisoner to use on Grimme.
  • Old Pete escorts group to a nearby warehouse in a very circuitious fashion. Arrive just before dawn.
  • Group leaves to steal Heart of Darkness from Reverend Grimme in aftermath of upcoming church service.
  • Demons from Hell interrupt church service, Cedric determines this is all a play staged by Grimme, but the death is real. In the confusion, Old Pete steals the diamond.
  • In aftermath, Old Pete gives the diamond to Stone and vanishes. Stone “thanks” the group by giving them a two day head start before he hunts them down.
  • Train caught out of town. On board, party confronted by Jackie Wells who claims to be from 2094 and sent back to retrieve Heart of Darkness for the Vanessa Hellstromme of her time.

The Heart of Darkness
A group rolls into Lost Angels, as pebbles precede an avalanche...

Start of Play – October 27, 1876

  • Four troubleshooters hired by Vanessa Hellstromme enter Lost Angels in search of the Heart of Darkness – Cedric J. Northington, Marcus Kraus, Nikita Williams, and Roy Barker
  • Doc Snead, the man who stole it, tracked down but had already sold the diamond to a man named Stone
  • Two days ago, Stone had been confronted by Reverend Ezekiah Grimme, and hauled away to The Rock for interrogation
  • Doc Snead sought out, found drinking his problems away in a bar. Hired goons attempted to protect him, failed miserably.
  • Snead admitted to selling out Stone, and that Grimme wanted and now, presumably, possesses the Heart of Darkness
  • A friend of Stone’s named Old Pete offers to help steal back the Heart of Darkness if the party will break Stone out of prison
  • Investigations into Old Pete reveal that he hasn’t been seen prior to today, but he shows himself to be a capable thief.
  • Old Pete under cover of a suspiciously convenient fog ferries them to The Rock so they can infiltrate via a drainage pipe. Provides them with a key to Stone’s cell, and a uniform to show him for identification.
  • Upon entry, party confronted by mad scientist who manipulates electricity to nearly kill party. Taken out by Marcus and Roy.
  • Infiltration of Rock begins.
